President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden will debate each other for the first time Tuesday night in the first of three presidential debates. While Biden is maintaining a remarkably stable lead over Trump in most polls five weeks before Election Day, the race has tightened in some states. The question is how much do the debates matter this year? Retired Ripon College political scientist Marty Farrell says a recent poll showed that while 70 percent said the debates are not that important in deciding their vote, 80 percent said they have a very high level of interest. Farrell says most people already know the candidates and there are few undecided voters in this election.
