A retired Ripon College political scientist says revelations from former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s upcoming book are adding some drama to the ongoing senate impeachment trial of president Donald Trump. Bolton writes in the forthcoming book that Trump told him that he wanted to withhold security aid from Ukraine until it helped him with politically charged investigations, including into Democratic rival Joe Biden. But Marty Farrell says it remains to be seen what impact this new revelation will have on Republican senators. While support can dissolve pretty fast, Farrell says support seems to be strong for Trump among the Republican base. Trump said Monday he never told Bolton such a thing and Farrell said that’s what he would expect Trump to say.
