The Fond du Lac County Sheriff says it turns out a deputy was injured while apprehending a high speed chase suspect over the weekend.  The chase started on Interstate 41, with speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour , ending on Highway 67 in Lomira.   Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says following the chase, the driver fled on foot and then resisted  as he was being taken into custody.  The initial press release said no deputies were injured during the incident early Sunday morning.   But  Waldschmidt says deputy Nathan Birkholz suffered a minor back injury as he was attempting to take the suspect into custody.  “It is just a strained back.   It’s one of those situations where when the adrenaline wears off and you give it a few hours you realize I’ve got an injury that I didn’t realize in the heat of the moment.  But he should be okay,”  Waldschmidt told WFDL news.  Waldschmidt says the suspect was allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol.  The 28 year old Green Bay man is expected to make his initial court appearance this week.
