8-23-19 recession worries

A retired Ripon College economics professor says he doesn’t believe there will be a recession any time soon.   Concerns of a recession were heightened after last week’s steep drop in the financial market.  But economist Paul Schoofs says people are jumping the gun by predicting a looming recession.   “There’s been so much threat of trade wars and tariffs leading to a lot of uncertainty on the part of both businesses and consumers in the households that,  for the stock market in particular,  that has led to a lot of fear of recession happening, and therefore values of stocks dropping,   Schoofs told WFDL news.  Consumer confidence has dropped 6.4 percent since July and overall economic growth has slowed.
