4-25-19 title one schools of recognition

Two Fond du Lac public schools have been recoginized for their work in helping students who come from economically disadvantaged families.  Sabish Middle School and Riverside Elementary School have been named Title One Schools of Recognition.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says one of the things that stands out at Riverside is a program called Academic Parent-Teacher teams.  “Riverside has a different approach to parent-teacher conferences that involves parents coming into the school, setting goals for their kids, working with them at home and consistently monitoring those goals as well,”  Sebert told WFDL news.  “They received a grant from the Department of Public Instruction.”   The startling statistic is that nearly half of Fond du Lac school district students live in poverty.   Dr. Sebert says that number has been steadily rising.
