4-20-18 school board signature bill

Governor Scott Walker has signed a bill lowering the number of required signatures to run for school board in dozens of  smaller communities across the state.  The bill was drafted by Fond du Lac state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt and co-authored by state senator Dan Feyen at the request of the North Fond du Lac School District.  North Fond du Lac School superintendent Aaron Sadoff says because the North Fond du lac School District has territory within whats designated as a second-class City, Fond du Lac, school board candidates needed to file a minimum of 100 signatures.  Sadoff says in many school districts board candidates don’t have to get any signatures.  Sadoff says that’s why write-in candidates have been elected to the North Fond du Lac school board three out of the last four years.  “The tough part about that is in the town of Friendship, village of North Fond du Lac, town of Fond du Lac and Eldorado its spread out and to get those signatures in the month of December its tough,”  Sadoff said.  Because of the new law the North Fond du Lac School Board has set the signature requirement at 30.
