2-26-18 sturgeon spearing season coming to a close

The sturgeon harvest on Lake Winnebago is closing in on 600 fish.  The DNR says 23 fish were speared on Friday and 43 fish were harvested Saturday bringing the total number harvested on Lake Winnebago to 640.   Another 297 sturgeon were taken from the upriver lakes, for a total of 937 system-wide.   The largest sturgeon Saturday was 137.4 pounds and 76.1 inches.  The fish was registered at Calumet Harbor by John Pickart of Malone.   As the sturgeon spearing season winds down, a total of 43 sturgeon were harvested Saturday.  Sunday, February 25 is the last day of the 2018 season.
