10-19-17 fdl fire and rescue sauna

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue is taking steps to try and reduce the risk firefighters  face  from the smoke and chemicals they are exposed to every time they go into a burning building.  Assistant Fire chief Erick Gerritson  says the Fire Department’s Main Street station is the first station in northeast Wisconsin to have a Post Fire Carcinogen Reduction Booth.  Gerritson says the booth is like a sauna that will be used by firefighters after they take a post fire shower.  “Pretty much any fire that we have that involves products of combustion.  A lot of times the products have serious carcinogenic properties,”  Gerritson told WFDL news.  Gerritson says the sauna booth is made possible by donations from the Geiger Family Foundation and Agnesian Healthcare Foundation.
