2-23-17 dodge county sheriff wants beaver dam city council to take action against establishment

The Dodge County Sheriff says he wants the Beaver Dam city council to take action against an establishment that has been the scene of criminal activity over the last couple of years.   Sheriff’s deputies and Beaver Dam police were called to Pops Eatery in Beaver Dam Saturday night after receiving a tip there would be a large gathering.   Sheriff Dale Schmidt says in addition to multiple citations there were arrests for resisting, felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.  Schmidt says people at the establishment were from the Madison area with gang ties.  “I don’t know where they’re (Pop’s Eatery)  getting their clientele, if they’ve got a promoter or someone that’s working with them to bring these individuals up, but for whatever reason, they’re not local,”   Schmidt told WFDL news.  Schmidt says investigators are looking into whether some of the people were later involved in shootings that took place in Madison.  “I’m not certain that its connected.  I think we can all make inferences.  There were four individuals that were shot down there (Madison) in the early morning hours of Sunday and I believe that they may have been in Beaver Dam at  this location.”    Schmidt says he wants the Beaver Dam city council to do something about the establishment.  “I’m asking them to take action.  The  action that they take is up to them,”  Schmidt said.  “They have a point system for their ordinance and they have to follow that but they need to strongly consider levying heavy points.  If that ends in suspension or revocation (liquor license) I’m okay with that.”   Schmidt says the citizens who live in that area deserve to have a safe place to live.
