2-6-17 top ten consumer complaints

Threatening phone calls about unpaid taxes.  Calls offering to lower your credit card interest rate.  Fake tech support calls warning about problems with your computer.  Telemarketing calls topped the Wisconsin Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection’s list of consumer complaints for 2016.  Division administrator for Trade and Consumer Protection,  Frank Frassetto, tells WFDL news Wisconsin consumers’ phones were attacked in 2016 by imposters looking the steal money or personal information.  Frassetto a recent crackdown on a major IRS phone scam operation in India did slow the scam.  Frassetto says there was a significant drop in identity theft complaint in 2016…down almost 48 percent from 2015.
