Construction is expected to begin in March on a major road reconstruction project in Fond du lac. Bids were let last week for the reconstruction of Pioneer Road between Hickory Street and Rogersville Road. The Fond du lac County Highway committee voted last week to authorize county officials to apply for a state DOT grant of up to a million dollars for the project. “It will be completely upgraded to an urban section similar to what you see on the underpass section that was rebuilt a couple years ago. Concrete highway with curb and gutter, storm sewer, bike accomodations as well as an off-street bike lane,” Highway commissioner Tom Janke, told WFDL news. Janke says access will be maintained for businesses on that stretch of road. He says the intersection in front of the employee entrance at Mercury Marine will be signalized and timed to the company shift changes. A roundabout will be built at Pioneer and Military Road. Construction is scheduled to be completed in November.
