A spokesman for Mercury Marine says Merc’s parent company is doing everything it can to protect employees’ financial information following an email fishing incident. Merc spokesman Lee Gordon says the incident reported Friday by Brunswick Corporation resulted in the potential unauthorized disclosure of 2015 W-2 information of a large number of current and former employees, including Merc employees. Gordon says no one hacked into the Brunswick system, nor was there an intrusion of the system, but rather a sophisticated phishing incident. Gordon says Brunswick has been informing employees, has notified the IRS and is cooperating with other agencies as appropriate.
