Marian University will hold its 75th spring commencement on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14.   The Commencement weekend will begin on Friday, May 13, with the School of Nursing and Health Professions radiologic technology pinning ceremony beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Stayer Center, room 205, and the nursing pinning ceremony beginning at 5pm, in Marian’s Sadoff Gymnasium. The School of Education will hold its commissioning ceremony on Friday, May 13 at 5:00 p.m. in Dorcas Chapel. All graduates and guests are invited to the President’s Champagne Reception in the Hornung Student Center at 6:00 p.m. following these ceremonies.  Activities on Saturday, May 14 will begin with a Graduation Liturgy in Dorcas Chapel at 10:30 a.m. The graduation ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. and is held outdoor on the Marian University quad.  Author Candice Millard will serve as commencement speaker and will receive an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. Millard is a former writer and editor for National Geographic magazine. Her first two books, The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey and Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine & the Murder of a President, appeared on the New York Times bestseller list and received numerous awards. Her most recent book, Hero of the Empire: The Boer War, a Daring Escape and the Making of Winston Churchill, will be released on September 20, 2016. Millard lives in Kansas City with her husband and three children.  Kevin Wilson will be presented with this year’s Magnificat Award. Kevin is originally from Port Orchard, Washington and moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 2006. A former EMT and Trauma Tech, Wilson is now a treatment foster care provider. He has fostered over 50 children in the last 20 years and adopted two boys through the foster care system. In April of 2014, Wilson and his business partners opened Pillar & Vine, a foster care agency located in Brandon, Wisconsin, that serves children and families throughout Wisconsin. Kevin and his wife live in Fond du Lac and have 4 adult children and two young boys.  Tickets are required for the graduation ceremony in the event of inclement weather.
