3-11-16 dodge county circuit judge orders violent sex offender placed in reeseville residence

A Dodge County Circuit judge has ordered a convicted violent sex offender to be placed in a Reeseville residence despite objections from law enforcement.  At a review hearing Thursday Judge Joseph Sciascia ordered that Robert Larson Jr. be placed at the residence on Neueberger Road.   Sheriff Dale Schmidt says his concern is that 14 children live in homes within 1500 to 2000 feet of the residence and eight additional children visit the homes regularly.  Schmidt says one of the homes is used as a summer day care for children.   “We certainly have a lot of children that are in the area,” Schmidt told WFDL news.  “I’m disappointed that we weren’t able to get this placement moved.”  Larson was one of two high risk sex offenders placed in a town of LeRoy residence last year and subsequently removed by the court  after it was learned the residence was next door to a home where children lived.  There will be another hearing March 22nd for another high risk sex offender, Jonathon Miller, to be placed at the same residence.   Schmidt says he will continue to raise concerns before additional placement decisions are made in an attempt to find a more suitable location. Wisconsin law states that placement of these individuals within 1500 feet of residents with children is illegal.  It is silent on placement outside of 1500 feet which is the case here.  As a result, the court  conditionally approved the plan, pending some additional reports from DHS.   Schmidt will be a guest at 9:45am Friday on AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.
