3-3-16 court grants immunity to police, green lake county in child abuse case

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin appeals court has ruled Green Lake County and Berlin’s police department are immune from claims in a child abuse case.  The 2011 investigation happened after a boy told his principal his uncle had showed him pornography. The county and police investigated the uncle but decided not to refer the case for criminal charges. Years later, another investigation revealed the uncle sexually abused the boy for years. He ultimately pleaded no contest.  The boy’s mother sued the county and police claiming they should have known the uncle was a danger back in 2011.  The trial court determined the county and police could be sued. The 2nd District Court of Appeals reversed that ruling Wednesday, granting summary judgment to the defendants.
