3-1-16 unsafe driving behavior survey

A new AAA survey shows nearly 90 percent of drivers engage in unsafe behaviors behind the wheel.   State AAA spokesman Nick Jarmuscz says these unsafe behaviors include driving while distracted, impaired, drowsy, speeding, running red lights or not wearing a seatbelt.  The survey showed about 87 percent of drivers engaged in at least one risky behavior while behind the wheel in the past month.  More than two in three drivers report talking on a cell phone while driving and more than two in five drivers admit to reading a text message or email while driving.  Nearly half of all drivers report going 15 miles an hour over the speed limit on a freeway,  nearly one in three drivers say they have driven when they were so tired they had a hard time keeping their eyes open and 39 percent admit driving through a red light when they could have stopped safely.   Nearly one in five drivers report driving without a seatbelt and one in eight report driving drunk.
